By looking into some of the best selling computer role playing games and video games, I have noticed some reoccurring features. The most noticeable is the combat oriented gameplay and the Medieval European setting. Therefore it is imperative that these features are removed in the final game.
Hi, I am Keke and I am in my fourth year of Digital Media at York University. This blog will document weekly the progression of my capstone project in DATT 4700 Digital Media Project.
The topic I have chosen to examine is the taxonomy of computer role-playing games. I am a huge fan of role-playing games, whether it's tabletop or video, and over the years I have noticed that it is easy to identify if a video game is an RPG. The reason for this is because many RPGs use the same conventions. Therefore for my capstone project, I propose the creation of a video game that will discard these conventions and deconstruct the genre in order to its boundaries. For more information on RPGs, check out the Wikipedia page for it. |
